COUNSELING INFORMATION

Many people wonder what counseling is or what it involves. Basically, it is a relationship in which one person enlists the professional assistance of another for the purpose of bringing about changes in his or her own behavior. The task of the Counselor, is to help individuals make the changes they wish to make. Most people, at one time or another, need some help with various issues or struggles in their lives. People most often seek help when they feel overwhelmed with the stresses in life, when they feel bad, are struggling in relationships with others, or when they want to grow emotionally or develop better interpersonal skills.

For example if you are experiencing:

  • increased fatigue

  • restlessness

  • inability to concentrate

  • struggling with healthy boundaries

  • racing or unwanted thoughts

  • excessive worry or fear

  • quick tempered

  • grinding your teeth

  • biting your nails

  • struggle to make decisions

  • insomnia

  • nausea

  • heart palpitations

  • feelings of impending doom or finding yourself catastrophizing

You may be experiencing significant stress or anxiety in your life. I can teach you how to reduce both your stress and anxiety as well as how to advocate for yourself in order to improve your life mentally, emotionally, and physically. I can also help you to improve any of your relationships that may be adversely affected by this stress or anxiety in your life.

Another example might be if you are experiencing:

  • frequent nightmares

  • insomnia

  • sweaty palms, racing heart, rapid breathing, shaking

  • hyperviligance

  • avoidance of certain people, places, or activities

  • flashbacks

  • easily startled or frightened

  • increased agitation or irritability, outbursts or aggressive behavior

  • severe anxiety,

  • feeling detached from family and friends

  • emotional distress or ongoing negative emotions of fear, blame, guilt, anger or shame

  • unwanted or distressing memories of a traumatic event or loss

  • trying not to think or talk about a traumatic event or relationship

  • self-destructive behaviors, such as drinking too much, driving too fast, or numbing out with drugs or other addictions

You may have experienced a significant loss, trauma, abuse, abandonment, or neglect in your life that I can help you process through in order to heal, reduce/eliminate your trauma response symptoms, and vastly improve your quality of life.
